Ways to reverse sun damage

Any damage imposed to a human body cell due to direct projection of sunlight or sun rays is called Sun Damage. The damaged body cells altogether alter the body conditions to worsen. The worsened conditions on still prolonged exposure could lead to skin cancer.

Sun damage generally shows up in the form of wrinkles, fine lines, sun spots, and rough texture. Having a lot of sun damage is a marker for increased skin cancer risk.

The studies show that 90% of aging is caused due to the sun.

The sun causes an uneven increase in melanin production. The extra melanin makes skin appear darker or sun-tanned, which produces irregular coloring of the skin. This pigmentation enables blood vessels beneath the skin causing a reddish outlook. The pigmentation generally makes skin more sensitive than normal.

The sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the cause of burning and long-term changes in the skin's structure. Apart from tan and sunburn, UV rays are known to cause much more damage to the skin.

UV rays penetrate the skin and cause an abnormal build-up of elastin. Due to this build-up, the skin produces enzymes that break down elastin and also unintentionally break down collagen.

Ultra Violet Aging

The aging process due to ultraviolet rays is called Ultra Violet Ageing. It is premature aging with wrinkle formation. The damage touches deep layers.

Ultra Violet Burning

The UV rays that cause sunburns and tanning are considered Ultra Violet Burning. It just impacts the outer layer of the skin.

Reverse Sun Damage in Men

Irrespective of gender, sun damage is universal. To protect skin from various radiations delivered through sun rays is called reverse Sun damage. Men's skin is rough and tough compared to women's. Still, their skin does feel the same when radiated under the sun. The most common sun damage is aging. There are various products provided with dermatologist suggestions, and proven surgeries to reverse the damaged conditions.

Sun Protection

The best anti-aging product is sunscreen. The old-age effects are due to the carelessness of the young age. When necessary precautions are taken, there would be better living in old age.

It is never too late to start protecting your skin from the sun with sunscreen and sun-protective clothing. Sun damage is often most obvious in those areas where we forget sunscreen (backs of hands, neck, eyelids). Sun protection helps prevent further sun damage & will help with efforts to fade existing sunspots.

Antioxidants (Vitamin C, Resveratrol, coq10) help minimize oxidative stress from both UV and infrared radiation from the sun. Along with sun protection, they help prevent ongoing sun damage and fading sun damage. Apply in the AM, followed by sunscreen.

Retinoids help to remove sun-damaged skin cells and to improve collagen synthesis, smoothing out fine lines and improving skin texture. Apply at night before bed.

Chemical Peel

At-home peels with AHA, Alpha Hydroxy acid can exfoliate away some damaged cells, improve discoloration, and improve skin radiance. These can be used 1-3 times a week as tolerated. If you are already using retinol, however, don’t go overboard with these, as it is easy to over-exfoliate, which can lead to dryness & irritation.

Ayurvedic Regiments

There are various ayurvedic solutions available to reverse sun damage. Sandalwood, Aloe Vera, Lupine Flowers, and Turmeric are the most commonly used herbally made skin solutions. These natural lotions are gently scrubbed over the skin at night and wash off in the early morning.

Treatments for sun damage vary. There are products available as daily use topical creams and gels that can be gently applied over the damaged skin.

There are various chemical, herbal and mechanical skin peels. There are available cost-effective laser treatments in modern days. There are available surgery solutions to unclear the damaged cells and tissues and implant an extraordinary system to replace them with new cells.

These treatments can temporarily fade the uneven pigment, oily skin, smooth roughened or wrinkled skin, shrink pores, and even restart collagen production.
